Tripura floods affect over 1,000 people as Haora River rises
Heavy rainfall in the hill areas has caused the Haora River to rise above danger levels, triggering significant flooding in Agartala and the West Tripura district. The inundation has affected over 1,000 people, particularly in low-lying areas and localities along the Katakhal Canal.
Rescue operations are being led by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Tripura Police, and the Tripura State Rifles. The NDRF successfully rescued 25 individuals, including a pregnant woman, from flooded zones. Officials have deployed boats to evacuate stranded residents and are working to clear highways blocked by fallen trees.
Chief Minister Manik Saha has visited several relief camps, including those at Vivekananda School, Bardowali, and Ashram Chowmuhani. Currently, 17 relief camps are operational, housing approximately 1,305 people from 413 families. The Chief Minister stated that the government is monitoring the situation round the clock and is seeking permanent solutions to prevent recurring flood issues in the state.
