Tripura government to absorb 100% of electricity tariff hike

The Tripura state government has announced it will bear 100 per cent of the additional financial burden resulting from the revised electricity tariff for 2026-27. This decision aims to provide relief to over 10 lakh consumer families, including households, farmers, small traders, and industries, following the rate increase approved by the Tripura Electricity Regulatory Commission (TERC).

Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath stated that the decision was made to prevent an unbearable financial burden on ordinary citizens. Because the revised tariff has been in effect since May 2026, many consumers have already paid the higher rates. The government has assured that any excess amounts paid will be adjusted in electricity bills for September, October, and November.

In addition to the tariff relief, Chief Minister Manik Saha is also involved in socio-economic initiatives, such as a toolkit distribution ceremony for skilled Bru candidates to promote sustainable livelihoods and economic self-reliance.
