Tripura intensifies food safety inspections and registrations

The Tripura government has intensified its food safety surveillance and regulatory enforcement measures for the 2026-27 financial year. As part of this initiative, officials have issued 6,478 food registrations and 75 food licenses across the state to bring more business operators into the regulatory framework.

During recent inspection drives, including special enforcement actions and risk-based assessments, hundreds of establishments were evaluated. While approximately 81.7% of inspected establishments were found to be fully compliant, several irregularities were detected. Legal proceedings have been initiated against establishments found in violation, and authorities have issued closure, stop-sale, and improvement notices where necessary.

In the Sepahijala district, specifically at Chelikhala Market, inspections focused on cleanliness, sanitation, and the validity of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) registrations. During these local checks, some outlets were found operating without required registrations or using improper methods to display food, such as using newspaper sheets. Officials have collected various food samples for laboratory analysis to ensure public health standards are maintained.
