Tripura minister seeks central intervention to restore Agartala flight services
Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has requested the intervention of Union Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu to address the reduction and withdrawal of flight services from Agartala.
Chowdhury noted that several airlines, including Air India, Air India Express, IndiGo, and Akasa Air, have either reduced or proposed to discontinue various routes connecting Agartala to major cities. Specific concerns were raised regarding the potential discontinuation of the Agartala-Guwahati sector by Air India and the Agartala-Hyderabad service by IndiGo.
The minister stated that these service reductions contradict the growing demand for air connectivity in the region and have led to a sharp increase in airfares for key routes such as Agartala-Kolkata, Agartala-Delhi, and Agartala-Bengaluru. He emphasized that the lack of availability is causing financial hardship and inconvenience for passengers traveling for medical treatment, education, and business.
