Tripura Police arrest eight in rehab centre death investigation
Tripura Police have arrested eight individuals, including the owner of the Dream Foundation Rehab Centre, in connection with the death of Tuhin Subhra Bhattacharjee. The victim was undergoing treatment at the facility in Agartala when he was allegedly assaulted on August 15.
Following the incident, Bhattacharjee was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead. The investigation, led by the New Capital Complex Police Station, utilized CCTV footage and post-mortem reports as evidence. The post-mortem indicated marks of physical assault on the deceased's body.
The arrests include the centre's owner, Shubham Biswas, as well as several staff members and other associates. The victim's wife, Shahana Das Bhattacharjee, had previously filed a complaint alleging that the family had made multiple payments for treatment and medication, yet the facility continued to demand more funds.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha stated that the state government maintains a ‘zero tolerance’ policy regarding drug-related activities and has instructed law enforcement to take all necessary measures to curb such issues.
