Tripura Police Investigate Murder of Two Brothers in Dharmanagar

Police in Dharmanagar, North Tripura, are investigating the deaths of two brothers, Joydeep Roy Choudhury and Shubhadeep Roy Choudhury, who were found dead in the Baruakandi area on October 19, 2026.

The victims' father, Samiran Roy Chowdhury, filed a complaint alleging the deaths may be linked to prior threats made by a local resident, Bijan Das, and others. The dispute reportedly stems from a financial transaction. According to the complaint, the brothers had received death threats and threatening phone calls prior to the incident.

A delegation from the CPI(M), including several MLAs and party leaders, visited the crime scene and met with the Officer-in-Charge of Dharmanagar Police Station, Meena Debbarma. The delegation demanded a speedy investigation, the arrest of all involved parties, and increased police patrolling to maintain peace in the area.

Local reports indicate that Dharmanagar police have already detained one accused in connection with the murders. While the victims' family alleges a targeted attack, Bijan Das has made counter-allegations of being beaten by others involved in the dispute.
