Tripura reports 86.52% piped water coverage and announces month-long celebrations

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced that the state has achieved 86.52% piped water coverage for households, a significant increase from the 3.24% recorded at the launch of the Jal Jeevan Mission in 2019. As of August 20, 2026, 647,437 out of 750,449 households in the state have received pipeline connections.

Addressing water supply challenges in hilly and remote tribal areas, Dr. Saha noted that the government is implementing alternative solutions, such as pumping water from streams and springs to higher elevations, where traditional drilling is not feasible.

Additionally, the Chief Minister detailed plans for the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, a month-long program running from September 17 to October 17 to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. The initiative will include approximately 25 programs, such as tree plantations, cleanliness drives, and drawing competitions, aimed at highlighting people-oriented government projects.
