Tripura tea enters European market with major export consignment

The Tripura Tea Development Corporation Limited (TTDCL) has dispatched its first major international tea consignment, marking the state of Tripura’s entry into the global tea trade. The shipment, weighing 15.31 metric tonnes, is destined for European markets and was routed through Kolkata.

This consignment represents the largest single outbound shipment handled by the TTDCL to date, nearly doubling the corporation's previous record of 8,200 kg. The tea was processed at the Central Tea Processing Factory in Durgabari, West Tripura, following strict quality checks and compliance with export parameters.

To further support the industry, the state government is working to establish an Agartala Tea Auction Centre. This proposed technology-driven platform aims to bring growers, manufacturers, and buyers together to facilitate competitive price discovery and reduce logistics costs, such as freight and warehousing, by an estimated Rs 6-10 per kg.
