Tripura Transport Department responds to passenger harassment at MBB Airport

The Tripura Transport Department has condemned the harassment of passengers and the obstruction of app-based Uber auto-rickshaw services at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in Agartala. The incident reportedly occurred on the night of September 30, 2026, where passengers were allegedly prevented from using the authorized transport service.

Following the incident, police at the Airport Police Station arrested two individuals, and investigations are currently underway. A joint team from the Transport and Police Departments visited the airport to review the situation and assess the actions taken. The department has stated it will follow a ‘zero tolerance’ policy regarding the intimidation of drivers or the disruption of lawful transport operations.

Pending legal due process, the Transport Department has directed the suspension of driving licenses and vehicle registrations for the defaulting auto drivers or owners involved. The government emphasized its commitment to promoting technology-enabled, choice-based transport services to ensure passengers can travel without fear of interference or intimidation.
