Türk Kızılay hosts culinary workshop for earthquake survivors
Türk Kızılay has organized the 11th installment of its ‘İyilikle Pişen Hayatlar’ (Lives Cooked with Kindness) workshop series in Istanbul. The initiative is designed to support the professional development and employment of women affected by the February 6 earthquakes.
Twenty women from Kilis participated in the program, receiving practical culinary training from prominent chefs, including Somer Sivrioğlu, Hasan Biltekin, Milhan Erdem, Metin Yavuz, and Zübeyde Yaşlak. The training focuses on transitioning domestic cooking skills into professional expertise by teaching industrial kitchen techniques and food safety.
Türk Kızılay President Prof. Dr. Fatma Meriç Yılmaz stated that the program aims to provide both psychosocial support and economic independence. By certifying participants in industrial kitchen skills, the organization seeks to facilitate their entry into the workforce and help them overcome the trauma of the earthquake through professional empowerment.
