Türkiye aims to expand irrigated agricultural land to 7.4 million hectares by 2027

The General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry have announced plans to significantly expand and modernize Turkey's agricultural irrigation infrastructure. According to the 2027 Presidential Annual Program, the government intends to bring an additional 61,159 hectares of land under irrigation next year, aiming for a total irrigated area of 7.4 million hectares by 2027.

To improve water efficiency and mitigate climate change impacts, the ministry is prioritizing the transition from open channel systems to closed piped systems. Modernization efforts are expected to renew irrigation facilities across 16,000 hectares in 2027. Additionally, the government is working to consolidate fragmented land parcels, with targets to begin consolidation on 180,000 hectares and complete registration for 603,000 hectares by 2027.

To support production planning and market control, a new agricultural data center will be established. This center is designed to record and monitor all agricultural inputs, providing early warning systems, stock management, and improved food supply chain efficiency through enhanced software and hardware infrastructure.
