Türkiye and Indonesia strengthen defense industry cooperation

Türkiye and Indonesia have established a growing strategic partnership centered on defense industry cooperation. This bilateral framework, which dates back to approximately 2014-2015, facilitates joint projects, technology transfer, and coordinated weapons development and production between the two nations.

Unlike NATO’s Article 5, this agreement does not constitute a mutual defense pact and does not include an obligation for one nation to defend the other in a conflict. Instead, the relationship focuses on diversifying supply chains and reducing dependence on Western arms suppliers, a move driven by previous sanctions and procurement restrictions faced by both countries.
