Türkiye debt enforcement files rise to 28,000 daily

Turkish CHP Mersin Deputy Gülcan Kış has reported a significant surge in debt enforcement cases, attributing the rise to inflation and eroding purchasing power. According to data from the National Judicial Network Information System, 6,555,000 new enforcement files were opened between January 1 and August 21, 2026. This averages to approximately 28,000 new files every day.

Kış noted that the total number of pending enforcement files has reached 26 million. The increase is linked to rising costs, which have forced minimum wage earners, retirees, and public employees to rely on credit cards and personal loans to meet basic needs.

In the first six months of the year alone, approximately 1,117,000 individuals faced enforcement proceedings due to inability to repay personal loans or credit card debts. Kış criticized current economic policies, stating that the growth experienced by citizens is primarily characterized by rising debt, interest, and legal enforcement actions.
