Türkiye expands EV charging infrastructure amid rising vehicle adoption

Türkiye is accelerating the expansion of its electric vehicle (EV) charging network as part of its Medium-Term Program (OVP). The government aims to implement a “Net Zero Emissions Strategy and Action Plan for Transportation” and develop a technology roadmap for intelligent, sustainable transportation systems. This initiative includes plans to electrify heavy commercial vehicles in the logistics sector through high-capacity infrastructure.

The expansion follows rapid EV adoption. Data from July 2026 indicates there are nearly 465,000 EVs on Turkish roads, compared to 46,665 commercially operated public charging sockets. This results in approximately 10 EVs per public charging socket, a higher ratio than the European Union average of eight.

In support of this growing market, Tesla has opened a new Supercharger station in İzmit on the E80 highway. The facility features 12 units capable of delivering up to 250 kW of power each. Tesla plans to continue its infrastructure investments in the country, with 60 additional charging points expected to be integrated into the ecosystem in the near future.
