Türkiye mediates talks between Libya’s rival legislative leaders

Türkiye has facilitated a significant diplomatic meeting in Ankara between the leaders of Libya’s two rival legislative institutions. House of Representatives Speaker Aguila Saleh and High Council of State President Mohammed Takala met to discuss political and military unity, the consolidation of divided state institutions, and the resumption of elections.

A key outcome of the meeting was the agreement to reactivate the joint 6+6 Committee, which is tasked with formulating the laws required for presidential and parliamentary elections. Türkiye has offered to host this committee to finalize outstanding electoral legislation.

Beyond political mediation, bilateral cooperation between the two nations is expanding into the transport and energy sectors. Libyan and Turkish officials recently met to discuss expanding Turkish Airlines' operations and enhancing air transport links. Additionally, Türkiye Petrolleri A. O. (TPAO) maintains a 40% stake in a major deepwater offshore exploration joint venture in Libya's Mediterranean waters, reflecting deepening economic ties.
