Türkiye precipitation reaches 66-year high

Precipitation in Türkiye reached its highest level in 66 years during the first 10 months of the 2026 water year, covering the period from October 1, 2025, to July 31, 2026. According to data from the General Directorate of Meteorology, the average precipitation was 693 kilograms per square meter, which is 30% above the normal level and 76% higher than the same period last year.

Regional variations were significant. While precipitation decreased by up to 20% in areas such as Tekirdağ, Bursa, and Erzurum, it increased by over 80% in parts of Siirt, Şırnak, and Van. The Southeast Anatolia Region saw the highest increase at 47% compared to normal levels.

Cumulative rainfall reached historic highs in several regions: the Mediterranean Region recorded its highest levels in 66 years, East Anatolia in 38 years, Central Anatolia in 15 years, the Aegean in 11 years, and the Black Sea in 10 years.
