Türkiye targets global logistics hub status via expanded trade corridors

Türkiye has unveiled a strategic economic roadmap for 2027–2029 aimed at establishing the nation as a global logistics hub connecting Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Under its Medium-Term Program (MTP), the government intends to expand high-capacity rail and trade routes to create more resilient and efficient supply chains.

A central component of this plan involves upgrading the Middle Corridor and the Development Road project. Key infrastructure developments include strengthening the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, the Kars-Igdir-Aralik-Dilucu line, and the Zangezur Corridor to increase rail capacity from the Caspian Basin to Europe. Additionally, the modernization of the Hejaz Railway is expected to secure transport links with the Middle East.

The strategy also emphasizes the Istanbul Northern Railway Crossing, which will serve as a critical junction connecting freight from the Persian Gulf and the Middle Corridor directly to Europe. By integrating ports, airports, organized industrial zones, and border crossings with these rail and road networks, Türkiye aims to enhance its intermodal transport capacity and reduce costs for exporters.
