Türksat completes major satellite transition for TV and radio channels

Turkey has successfully completed a major satellite transition, moving 573 television and 215 radio channels from the aging Türksat 3A satellite to higher-capacity, next-generation Türksat satellites. The operation, which took place during the night of August 15-16, was described by Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu as a high-precision engineering feat that was completed without broadcast interruptions.

The transition aims to enhance broadcast quality, providing better signal strength and paving the way for increased 4K and Ultra HD content. Because the new satellites occupy the same orbital position as Türksat 3A, viewers do not need to adjust their satellite dishes.

Impact on viewers depends on their equipment. Devices equipped with the Türksat Channel Update System (TKGS) will update channel lists automatically. However, users with older devices lacking TKGS support must perform a manual network scan using specific frequency parameters (12380 MHz or 12423 MHz) to regain access to channels. Some older SD-only receivers may face challenges as the industry shifts toward HD standards.
