TRNC Council of Ministers issues eight new decrees

The Council of Ministers has issued eight decrees with the force of law, published in the Official Gazette. Key provisions include a one-time 40,000 TL bonus for individuals receiving monthly income or payments from the Social Insurance Department, marking the department’s 50th anniversary. This bonus is scheduled for payment in November.

In the education sector, a new decree allows students who were disconnected from higher education institutions or were unable to complete their studies to re-enroll. This applies to those disconnected due to failure, economic reasons, or voluntary withdrawal before November 1, 2026. The regulation covers TRNC citizens, Turkish citizens, and citizens of other countries. Eligible students must apply to their former institutions within six months of the decree’s enactment. YÖDAK will intervene for students whose previous departments have closed, potentially directing them to other institutions.

Additionally, the decrees introduce payment facilities for electricity debts and tax or local government receivables dating from 2024 and earlier. Other measures include social insurance premium support for the September-November period.
