Seda Dilber elected Etimesgut Deputy Mayor

Seda Dilber of the CHP has been elected as the Deputy Mayor of Etimesgut following the arrest and removal from office of Mayor Erdal Beşikçioğlu. The election took place in the Etimesgut Municipal Council after Beşikçioğlu was suspended by the Ministry of Interior following a legal investigation.

In the initial rounds of voting, YENİ Parti candidate Mehmet Özdemir held a lead. However, the political landscape shifted in the final rounds when members of the People's Alliance (AK Parti and MHP) did not nominate their own candidates and instead cast votes for the CHP candidate. In the decisive fourth round, Dilber secured 21 votes to Özdemir’s 19, successfully meeting the required threshold.

The outcome has sparked debate within the YENİ Parti, with some members questioning the decision of the People's Alliance to support the CHP candidate despite the ongoing legal proceedings against the former mayor.
