Trnopolje camp remembrance event gathers youth in Bosnia
On August 5, the annual "Night in Trnopolje" commemoration marked its 15th edition in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Youth from across the region attended the ceremony organized by the Center for Youth KVARK, which included a debate on the publication "Media and Dehumanization" and screenings of related films.
Speakers such as activist and transitional‑justice expert Refik Hodžić warned that remembrance must foster empathy and understanding rather than fuel hatred. He stressed that the memory of the 1992 Trnopolje and Omarska camps, where women, children and elderly men were detained, tortured and killed, should teach the consequences of dehumanizing ideologies. The event aimed to prevent future conflicts by promoting a culture of remembrance that rejects division.
