Trofa man kills ex-partner and commits suicide after prior domestic violence acquittal

In Trofa, Portugal, a man identified as Manuel Pereira killed his ex-partner, Noémia, by shooting her in the head before committing suicide. The incident occurred in Muro after the victim was surprised by her former partner at her residence.

Reports indicate that in March 2025, the Santo Tirso Court had previously acquitted Pereira of domestic violence charges against the same victim. At that time, the court cited contradictory versions of events and applied the 'in dubio pro reo' principle, stating there was insufficient justification to grant more credibility to the woman's testimony than to the defendant's.
