Trofeo Príncipe de Asturias opening day cancelled due to wind

The opening day of the 41st Trofeo Príncipe de Asturias in the Rías Baixas was cancelled due to unstable and insufficient wind conditions.

In the Gestilar racing area within Baiona Bay, where J80 monotypes and Figaro boats for the Ladies Cup compete, officials attempted several starts. However, the lack of wind made it impossible to maintain minimum racing conditions, forcing the Mercedes-Benz Louzao J80 and the Ladies Cup crews to return to shore without competing.

Similarly, the ORC cruiser fleet in the ABANCA area near the Cíes Islands faced delays. After a brief attempt to start, the wind died down, leading to the annulment of the races.

With 87 vessels participating across the ORC, J80, and Figaro categories, all scores remain at zero. The competition is set to resume with a decisive day of racing scheduled for Saturday at noon.
