Troina establishes Ruggero I Foundation to manage cultural heritage
The municipality of Troina has officially established the ‘Ruggero I Foundation’ to manage, conserve, and promote the city’s cultural and historical heritage. Signed into effect by Mayor Alfio Giachino, the foundation will operate under an ‘in-house providing’ model, allowing the municipality to maintain control similar to its internal services.
A primary responsibility of the foundation is the management and development of the Troina Museum System (SiMuT). This network includes several key sites: the Municipal Palace (housing the Visitor Center and the Gaetano Miani collection), Palazzo Pretura (home to the Robert Capa Photography Museum), and the Torre Capitania complex, which contains the Archaeological Antiquarium and the Gaetano Zito Civic Modern Art Gallery. Other managed assets include the Giovanni Cleofe Canale Lapidarium, the Museum of Norman History, the municipal library, and the historical archive.
The foundation is also tasked with overseeing upcoming exhibition spaces, such as the Museum of the Sicilian Risorgimento and the MACTRO contemporary art museum. Its mandate includes organizing research, educational initiatives, and cultural itineraries to boost local tourism. Melina Impellizzeri has been appointed president of the board of directors, which includes Delia Palmigiano, Emanuela Squillace, Alfio Calabrese, and Ilaria Mancuso.
