Troms infrastructure faces 11 billion NOK maintenance backlog
Troms County is addressing significant infrastructure challenges through its 'Fylkesveiløftet' initiative. Between 2022 and 2028, the county council is investing two billion NOK into county roads, with a specific focus on seafood transport routes to improve road strength, drainage, and surface quality.
Despite these investments, the region faces a massive maintenance backlog estimated at approximately 11 billion NOK for its 3,000 kilometers of county roads. Beyond roadwork, local political discussions are focusing on the development of the 'Tromsbanen' railway to support industry, freight, and emergency preparedness. Other priority projects include the Østre Malangen connection to link Tromsø and Midt-Troms, and the maintenance of essential regional flight routes in North Troms.
