Tromsø: Man in his 70s killed in residential complex attack

A 79-year-old man, identified as Kåre Johan Henriksen, was killed during a violent incident in a residential complex in Tromsø on Tuesday night. According to police investigations, the victim had approached a neighbor in his 40s to request that they reduce noise levels coming from the apartment.

The suspect allegedly attacked Henriksen with an axe in the building's stairwell. Neighbors alerted authorities after hearing shouting and banging in the common areas. Although emergency responders performed first aid, the victim could not be saved.

A man in his 40s has been charged with murder and has been remanded in custody for two weeks. The suspect has reportedly admitted to his involvement during police interrogations. Police noted that during the initial arrest, officers had to use Tasers as the suspect was armed with a cutting tool. The victim's family has described the situation as an ‘unfathomable and deeply tragic’ loss.
