Troodos road congestion highlights Cyprus infrastructure delays

Significant traffic congestion has been reported on the primary road axes leading to the Troodos Mountains, specifically affecting the Nicosia-Troodos and Limassol-Troodos routes. During the August 15 holiday period, heavy traffic caused bottlenecks in areas such as Akaki, Peristerona, and Lania, forcing police to issue warnings and suggest alternative routes.

This congestion highlights long-standing issues regarding the state's inability to complete essential road infrastructure projects intended to connect major cities with the mountainous regions. Critics point to incomplete projects, such as the Limassol-Saitta road, where only a small 3.6-kilometer section was completed, failing to resolve the underlying traffic issues for residents, businesses, and the local economy.

In broader national news, discussions are intensifying regarding pension reforms, specifically concerning minimum pensions and tax penalties. Additionally, the European Commission has issued recommendations for Cyprus to improve the governance of semi-governmental organizations, emphasizing merit-based appointments and board independence.
