Tropea: Two men reported for staging fake accident to scam tourist

Two men from Lamezia Terme have been reported to the authorities following a staged traffic incident near Tropea. The suspects allegedly utilized a “mirror scam” to defraud a tourist traveling in a camper.

According to investigations by the Carabinieri, the suspects performed a risky overtake and then simulated a collision with the camper. They pressured the startled driver into paying 1,000 euros via bank transfer as immediate compensation to avoid involving insurance companies.

Investigators used local video surveillance footage to identify the vehicle and the individuals involved. The case has been referred to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Vibo Valentia for preliminary investigations.
