Tropical Depression Luis prompts weather alerts and heavy rain across Luzon

The Philippine weather agency PAGASA raised Signal No. 1 for the Polillo Islands, eastern Camarines Norte and northern Catanduanes as Tropical Depression Luis developed on August 2. Luis slightly intensified, with sustained winds increasing from 45 km/h to 55 km/h and gusts from 55 km/h to 70 km/h, while positioned about 295 km east of Daet, Camarines Norte.

PAGASA warned that at least eight provinces on Luzon's eastern side could see moderate to heavy rainfall (50‑100 mm) within 48 hours, raising the risk of floods and landslides. Additional areas, including parts of Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon, Bicol, Metro Manila and the Visayas, may experience scattered rain and thunderstorms. The agency also noted that the southwest monsoon could bring further rain on August 3.
