Tropical depression potential monitored in Atlantic Ocean

Meteorologists are monitoring a tropical wave in the Atlantic that shows potential for development into a tropical depression. The system is currently located near the Cabo Verde Islands and is expected to move west-northwestward across the central tropical Atlantic.

Forecasts regarding the system's development vary slightly between reports. One assessment indicates a 50% chance of development over the next seven days, while another suggests a high 80% chance of formation within the next 48 hours. Despite the potential for organization, El Niño conditions may present challenges by increasing wind shear, which can disrupt the strengthening of tropical storms.

Additionally, Tropical Storm Cristobal, which formed over the Subtropical Atlantic, is moving away from the Caribbean toward the east-northeast and is expected to dissipate as environmental conditions become unfavorable.
