Tropical North Queensland sees $295 million in tourism investment

Tropical North Queensland is experiencing a significant surge in tourism, with over $295 million in infrastructure investment currently underway. According to the 2025–26 Annual Report from Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ), international visitor spending reached a record $1.3 billion for the year ending March 2026, representing a 27.6% increase from the previous year.

Major ongoing projects include the $85 million Skyrail Rainforest Cableway upgrade, the $60 million Skyhaven accommodation development at Cairns Airport, and the Hilton Palm Cove Cairns Resort & Spa. Other notable investments include the $59 million Wangetti Trail and the $40 million redevelopment of Double Island by the Morris Group.

TTNQ leadership noted that marketing investments have yielded high returns, generating $34 of visitor expenditure for every dollar invested by industry and government partners. The organization has also approved the TNQ 2045 Destination Management Plan, which sets a long-term target of $10 billion in visitor expenditure by 2045.
