Tropical Storm Hernan forms in the Pacific Ocean

Tropical Storm Hernan has formed in the Pacific Ocean after developing from Tropical Depression Eight-E. As of August 13, 2026, the storm is located approximately 2,350 kilometers west of Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur.

According to the National Meteorological Service (SMN) and the National Hurricane Center (NHC), the system is moving west-southwest at speeds between 4 and 6 km/h. The storm currently maintains maximum sustained winds of approximately 65 to 75 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 85 km/h.

Official forecasts indicate that Hernan will continue moving over open waters, away from the Mexican coastline. No coastal watches or warnings are active, and the storm is not expected to bring rain, strong winds, or heavy surf to Mexican territory. The system is projected to weaken into a tropical depression by August 14 and may dissipate into a post-tropical remnant by the end of the weekend.
