Tropical Storm Norbert tracks west-northwestward in East Pacific

Tropical Storm Norbert is moving west-northwestward across the East Pacific. While some forecasts indicated the storm might reach hurricane strength, recent reports suggest it may maintain tropical storm status or experience fluctuations in intensity due to mid-level dry air and wind shear.

The storm is currently located far from land, positioned over 1,800 kilometers from Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur. Because of its westward trajectory in open waters, meteorologists have ruled out a direct impact on the Mexican coastline, though authorities are monitoring for potential high surf or swells.

Forecast models show divergence regarding the storm's long-term path. Some projections suggest a northward turn into cooler waters and higher wind shear, which would lead to weakening, while others indicate a southwestward track over warmer waters that could favor strengthening. The system is expected to eventually degenerate into a post-tropical remnant low by mid-September.
