Tropical storms Karina and Lowell form in the Pacific

Two tropical storms, Karina and Lowell, have formed in the Pacific Ocean. While both systems have the potential to strengthen into hurricanes, meteorological authorities report they are currently far from the coast of Baja California Sur and do not pose an immediate threat to Mexican territory.

Tropical storm Karina is located approximately 1,330 kilometers south of Cabo San Lucas, moving west-northwest with sustained winds of 75 km/h. Tropical storm Lowell is situated about 2,840 kilometers west-southwest of Cabo San Lucas, moving east-northeast with sustained winds of 65 km/h. Forecasts suggest both could intensify into hurricanes while remaining over open waters.

In Los Cabos, municipal civil protection authorities are maintaining 24-hour monitoring of convective activity in the Sea of Cortez. This local weather instability, associated with the Mexican Monsoon, may bring rainfall, electrical activity, and wind gusts to areas such as La Ribera and Los Barriles. Residents have been advised to avoid crossing arroyos and stream beds due to potential runoff.
