Tropicalia greenhouse project in Hauts‑de‑France abandoned

The Region Hauts‑de‑France, led by President Xavier Bertrand, approved a €2 million loan to support the Tropicalia greenhouse—an ambitious plan for the largest tropical greenhouse in Europe to be built near Berck, on the Champ Gretz site between Rang‑du‑Fliers and Verton. Project founder Cédric Guérin later announced the project would not proceed after failing to secure the €100 million financing required, noting that the cost estimate had doubled since the original 2019 projection despite modest inflation. The regional funding was never disbursed, and the venture, which had projected 500 000 visitors per year, has been definitively cancelled, joining a list of unrealised large‑scale schemes in the Hauts‑de‑France region.
