Trout Season Opens in Pennsylvania and Tasmania

Pennsylvania’s trout season officially begins on the first Saturday in April, marking a cultural tradition and a boost for local businesses. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) manages the statewide opening, oversees stocking millions of trout, and enforces regulations such as licence requirements and size limits.

In Tasmania, the 2026‑27 brown trout opening weekend saw over 400 anglers across dozens of lakes and rivers, including the River Derwent and Lake Pedder. Authorities recorded only 16 minor offences, mainly related to boat safety. The Inland Fisheries Service highlighted licence discounts for seniors and young anglers, and promoted a tagged‑trout competition offering cash prizes, with the first capture from Great Lake set to win $25,000.
