Tàrrega launches Correllengua festival to promote Catalan language

The city of Tàrrega has commenced the Correllengua festival, an initiative designed to promote the social use and vitality of the Catalan language through cultural participation. The festivities, which began on October 28 and will continue until December 6, include parades, theater, concerts, and celebrations for Castanyada.

This edition pays tribute to the writer, journalist, and editor Josep Maria Espinàs, a recipient of the Premi d’Honor de les Lletres Catalanes. Local culture official Miquel Nadal emphasized that the goal is to make the language an accessible tool for social integration and community building within the city.

The festival opened at the Teatre Ateneu with a theatrical performance by Cia. Memory, attended by approximately 300 students. The play addressed the linguistic challenges faced by Catalan speakers in Spanish-speaking environments and included historical reflections on the language.
