Três Lagoas authorities identify man found dead in Lagoa Maior
Antônio Correa, a 67-year-old man who had been missing since Tuesday, has been identified after his body was found floating in Lagoa Maior in Três Lagoas, Brazil.
The body was discovered on Friday afternoon by a local businessman who initially mistook the object in the water for a dead capybara. Upon realizing it was a person, the Military Police were notified. The Fire Department subsequently recovered the body, which showed disfigurement to the face and limbs, complicating the initial identification process.
While preliminary analyses found no obvious signs of violence, the Civil Police have not ruled out criminal activity. Investigators are currently working to determine whether the death was caused by drowning or other circumstances. The body has been sent to the Institute of Legal Medicine and Odontology (Imol) for a necropsy to establish the official cause of death.
