Três Lagoas, Brazil expands social electricity tariff enrollment and tackles street homelessness

The municipality of Três Lagoas, Mato Grosso do Sul, launched an itinerant campaign in partnership with Neoenergia Elektro and the Municipal Social Assistance Secretariat (SMAS) to update the Cadastro Único and enroll low‑income families in the social electricity tariff program (Energia com Cidadania). The drive began at the CRAS Ana Maria Moreira in the Carandá neighbourhood and will visit all CRAS centers over a month, accepting required documents such as RG, CPF, NIS and a recent electricity bill.

At the same time, the city faces growing concerns about people living on the streets. Local residents report increased thefts, drug use and insecurity, especially near commercial areas. The municipal Centre POP and POP Sheltering Service provide meals, hygiene facilities and material assistance on weekdays, but community leaders are calling for stronger public‑policy measures, expanded security, and social‑health interventions to address homelessness and its associated challenges.
