Três Lagoas: Man dies after police confrontation
A 53-year-old man, Fernando Garcia Leal de Oliveira, died following a confrontation with police in the Nossa Senhora Aparecida neighborhood of Três Lagoas.
The incident began around 7:20 a.m. when family members contacted emergency services after Oliveira reportedly entered a mental health crisis inside his home. According to police reports, the man became aggressive and barricaded himself in a bedroom, making threats against those attempting to help him.
When the Força Tática tactical unit arrived and entered the room, they encountered Oliveira armed with two machetes. Officers reported that he charged at the team, striking a ballistic shield. After attempts to subdue him with a Taser and rubber bullets proved unsuccessful, an officer discharged a firearm. Oliveira was transported to Hospital Auxiliadora by SAMU but succumbed to his injuries.
