During a meeting of the Mixed Budget Committee (CMO), officials and representatives debated the critical staff shortage at the Regional Labor Court of the 2nd Region (TRT-2) in São Paulo. Federal Deputy Professora Luciene Cavalcante reported a deficit of 488 employees at the court, which is Brazil's largest regional labor court.

The TRT-2 handles 19% of all labor lawsuits in Brazil and currently faces a backlog of nearly 1 million pending cases. Advocates for the court, including a commission of candidates from the most recent civil service exam, noted that approximately 5,300 people are awaiting appointment. Luciene Cavalcante emphasized that these appointments are included in the 2026 Budget Law and argued that the shortage hinders access to justice, particularly for vulnerable populations.

Fernanda Coimbra de Lima, representing the commission of approved candidates, stated that the lack of personnel has led to increased labor overload and rising rates of illness among staff. She noted that the delays negatively impact citizens, companies, and lawyers alike.
