Erdoğan criticizes international system at TRT World Forum 2026

At the 10th annual TRT World Forum in Istanbul, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan declared that the current international system has reached a point of bankruptcy. Speaking under the theme ‘Decentralized World: Who Leads When Rules Become Invalid?’, Erdoğan argued that global governance mechanisms are failing to address modern crises and that the rules-based order is being eroded by intensifying power competition.

Erdoğan specifically addressed the situation in Gaza, describing it as the largest genocide of modern times. He stated that since October 2023, 75,000 people have been killed and 176,000 injured in Israeli attacks. He also noted that in the West Bank, more than 3,000 attacks and violations against Palestinians were recorded in October alone.

Other speakers at the forum highlighted various global risks. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan warned that instability in maritime corridors, such as the Bab el-Mandeb and Strait of Hormuz, threatens global food and energy security. Additionally, Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacır outlined Turkey’s 2026–2030 Artificial Intelligence Action Plan, which aims to mobilize at least $10 billion in private sector investment in AI infrastructure.
