Tru-Cape launches locally grown Cosmic Crisp apples in South Africa

Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing has launched the first locally grown Cosmic Crisp apples in South Africa. Starting September 7, the premium variety will be available exclusively at Checkers retail stores.

Developed in the United States as a cross between the Honeycrisp and Enterprise cultivars, the Cosmic Crisp is noted for its vibrant red skin and white lenticels that create a galaxy-like pattern. The fruit is described as having a crisp, juicy texture with a balanced sweet-tart flavor, making it suitable for fresh consumption, cooking, and baking.

This commercial debut marks a significant milestone for South African agriculture, as the first trees planted in the country have officially entered production. Tru-Cape aims to use this variety to meet consumer demand for innovative, high-quality fruit within the premium segment.
