Truck accident on A70 near Bergrheinfeld causes motorway closure

A truck accident on the A70 near Bergrheinfeld caused a multi-hour full closure of the motorway heading toward Würzburg on Saturday morning. According to the Unterfranken Police Headquarters, a 52-year-old Polish driver collided with a concrete barrier at approximately 03:15 after misinterpreting construction site traffic guidance.

The collision damaged a car belonging to a 60-year-old woman and caused both LNG tanks on the truck to break off, necessitating extensive recovery operations and the controlled emptying of the tanks. No injuries were reported, though property damage is estimated at approximately 60,000 euros. The lane toward Würzburg was reopened by 15:00, while the direction toward Bamberg had been cleared earlier in the morning.
