Slovak suspect arrested in Hungary over planned acid attacks

Slovak police announced that a 32‑year‑old man, investigated under operation LEPTAČ, was wanted for preparing violent attacks on two women in eastern Slovakia, including a plan to douse one victim with acid. After earlier attempts were thwarted by Slovak authorities, the suspect fled to northern Hungary, using multiple false identities to evade capture. Through intensive operational information exchange and cooperation between Slovakia’s NCODK and Hungary’s ENFAST network, investigators located him in Heves county. On 22 June, Hungarian special police units (KR NNI and TEK) detained the suspect without incident. A European arrest warrant had been issued, and the Hungarian court ordered his provisional detention pending extradition to Slovakia. The case highlights cross‑border police collaboration in preventing violent crimes.

The suspect faces charges of serious violent offenses and will be handed over to Slovak prosecutors for trial.
