Truck driver arrested for arson of four vehicles in Germany

A 57-year-old truck driver from Hessen has been arrested on suspicion of arson involving four parked trucks. The incident occurred on the evening of September 29, 2026, at the Binnermoor parking area along the A27 near Hagen im Bremischen.

At the time of the fires, the drivers of the affected vehicles were sleeping in their cabs. Witnesses were able to wake them in time, preventing any injuries. Police ruled out technical defects as the cause, leading to an investigation into intentional arson. Total damages to the four trucks are estimated at approximately 80,000 euros.

The suspect, who is a professional driver operating throughout Germany, had initially reported the fires himself. Following an investigation by the Cuxhaven police unit, the court in Stade issued an arrest warrant, which was executed on October 12, 2026. Authorities have also conducted searches at the suspect's residence and business premises in North Hessen.
