Truck drivers misuse emergency lane on D1 motorway near Brno

Two foreign truck drivers were caught using an emergency lane to bypass traffic congestion on the D1 motorway near Ostrovačice, heading toward Brno. The drivers entered the lane during a Friday morning rush hour, violating regulations that reserve such lanes for emergency services, police, and road maintenance vehicles.

In addition to misusing the emergency lane, the drivers were observed overtaking in a section where overtaking by heavy goods vehicles is prohibited. Police monitored the incident using a drone, which allowed them to coordinate a motorcycle patrol to intercept the vehicles. Both drivers admitted to the offenses, citing a need to hurry. They face fines for both the lane misuse and the illegal overtaking.
