Truck drivers recognized during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week

The 38th National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is being observed to recognize the contributions of professional truck drivers to the economy and community stability. In the United States, more than 80% of communities rely exclusively on trucks to meet their freight transportation needs, including the delivery of food, medicine, and building materials.

Truck drivers play a critical role in food security by supporting food bank operations. They facilitate the stocking of distribution centers, the deployment of mobile food pantries, and the delivery of assistance to rural or homebound populations. During natural disasters, drivers are often among the first to respond, transporting essential supplies, construction materials, and fresh water to affected areas to aid in recovery efforts.

Professional drivers operate within a highly regulated environment, adhering to Department of Transportation standards, including rigorous hours-of-service rules and safety qualifications, to ensure the reliable movement of goods across highways and rural roads.
