Truck fire on A-68 highway following double tire blowout

An articulated truck caught fire on the A-68 highway during the early hours of Monday, August 10, after suffering two tire blowouts on the same axle of its semi-trailer. The incident occurred around 01:45 near kilometer 90 while a Navarra Foral Police patrol was traveling southbound.

The blowouts caused tire treads to fly onto the roadway, and the vehicle continued to drive, dragging the rims against the asphalt and creating a large column of sparks. After a brief delay in stopping, the truck was intercepted by police at kilometer 92.4.

Fire broke out in the rubber debris trapped in the axle. Police officers initially used their vehicle's extinguisher and the driver's extinguisher to suppress the flames, but the intense heat caused the fire to reignite. A second traffic patrol arrived with an additional extinguisher to contain the flare-ups until firefighters arrived to fully extinguish the blaze and cool the area. The intervention concluded around 03:00.
