Truck fires cause road closures in Brazil and Paraguay
Two separate truck fires have caused significant disruptions on major highways in Brazil and Paraguay.
In Paranatinga, Brazil, a large fire completely destroyed the cabin of a truck carrying limestone at the junction of BR-251 and MT-130. The driver attempted to extinguish the flames, which originated near the left headlight, with a vehicle extinguisher and assistance from other motorists. While the fuel tanks were full, the fire was contained before an explosion could occur. The 11th Military Firefighters Nucleus managed the operation with help from a local water truck. No injuries were reported.
In Salinas, Paraguay, a fire involving a bitrem truck carrying diesel oil led to the total closure of BR-251 near km 294. The incident caused significant congestion, leaving approximately 40 trucks stranded in both directions. Authorities, including the Fire Department, Civil Defense, and the Federal Highway Police, worked to isolate the area and cool the tanks. The highway was reopened only after the fuel was transferred and the area was secured. No injuries were reported.
